The inaugural Australian Championship reached a historic conclusion on Saturday as South Melbourne FC triumphed over Marconi Stallions FC in a landmark Grand Final.
In an extraordinary piece of football history, the only two clubs to have competed in all 28 seasons of the former National Soccer League met in a grand final for the first time, with South Melbourne securing the honour of becoming the competition’s first-ever champions.
